Sometimes motherhood is a sleep-deprived, stressful blur. Sometimes we just want to put the baby in the crib to sleep in 5 minutes flat and get on the sofa with a bowl of ice cream to escape the day. But in those moments where it's the middle of the night, and baby is up for the thousandth time, I want you to do this.
Hold them close to your chest and smell their sweet little head. Breathe in the wonderful baby smell. Because in the quiet of the night, it's just you and them. You are their world and all is right with their world when they are snuggled in your arms against your skin. Take in their precious breathing and the way their tiny body molds into yours. Because one day they will be to big to hold and won't need you to nurse, rock, or walk them to sleep. Really, they won't.
Always ask yourself what you'll regret when they are older? Will you regret holding them instead of watching a TV show, doing the dishes or putting in a load of laundry? Never. Will you look back and be happy you folded the clothes? Nope, you won't care or remember.
You'll hear it all the time- it goes by too fast. And it truly does. Babies are a magical thing and you don't want to miss the joy. So take an extra 5 minutes to sit and rock them after they've already fallen fast asleep. Stroke their soft, chubby cheeks and kiss their little forehead before you put them back in their crib. I promise you won't regret it for one second.
